How to Stay Optimistic and Grow a Positive Attitude

It’s not easy being positive in this world. Various events keep happening where you simply can’t keep a straight face. But these shouldn’t influence our attitude and feelings considering they don’t have anything to do with us.

Or do they? One could argue that they do since everyone feels the effects of them while others would argue that they should be ignored as they don’t have a direct influence on us.

Whatever the case may be, it’s much better to be positive about everything than allowing your emotions to take over and cause you pain. Even simple events in your personal life can change how you feel and ruin your day.

We’re here to help you out and show you how to keep a positive mind. Here are 7 simple ways to grow a positive attitude or keep it if you already have it!

1. Upload positivity to your brain

This might be a difficult thing to accomplish considering that you can’t simply ‘change’ your feelings. What you can do is think positively and reassure yourself that everything is going to be okay.

This will innately change the way your mind works, and you’ll experience less negative emotions in the future. Of course, there’s nothing bad in feeling bad, but it’s not good if you start living in those negative emotions, so you’ll need to grow a positive attitude!

2. Be aware of negativity

Having a skill, as important as this, will really make a difference. There’s no better way to avoid negativity than by recognising it and blocking it from having an influence on you.

You’ll also be able to help out people that matter to you by reducing the negativity from their lives. Of course, this isn’t easy and might not work, but it’s better to be able to notice negativity that lingers around than to let it overcome you.

3. Use gratitude to improve your attitude

This isn’t exactly related to emotions, but it’s also an important aspect of dealing with emotions. Express gratitude to people for anything they do for you.

This means that even if a cashier puts your items in a bag instead of you, express gratitude towards them and thank them for their help. This will make you a better person and a ‘beacon of light’ for those that need help.

People will start looking up to you and will aspire to be like you because, before you know it, your attitude will have improved a lot!

4. Evolve an attitude of curiosity

The old saying goes: “Curiosity killed the cat” but what you don’t know is that this is the short and incorrect version. The full version goes: “Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back”.

This is completely true because, if you’re not curious about the world and how it works, you’ll live in relative seclusion. Contrary to that, curiosity will make you feel human.

It will make you want to explore anything you run into which will have a positive effect on your emotions and attitude so be curious!

5. Utilize positive words to describe your life

We know that life isn’t fair sometimes and it can beat a person down enough so that they lose all color. But don’t let that define you! Start using positive words to describe your life.

Instead of saying ‘it’s bad and it’s getting worse’, say ‘it’s bad, but it’ll be better!’. Words have immense strength, and they can make a big change.

6. Disregard the things that don’t make you happy

No one is forced to do things that they don’t like. If you aren’t happy with your job and if it’s making you feel miserable then try to find another job.

If you’re in a relationship that isn’t making you happy anymore, but you’re afraid of breaking it off – gather the strength to do so and stop making yourself suffer.

Get rid of everything that’s making you unhappy because everyone has the right to be happy and nothing should be able to take away that right. Fight for yourself and establish a life that’s worth living. You deserve it!

7. Take time to do the things you enjoy

Nowadays, it’s difficult to find enough time to do things that make you happy. However, it’s not impossible, and everyone can find at least a few hours of their time for this purpose.

Instead of going to sleep during the day, visit a place that you didn’t visit before. Of course, this is only an example. You should constantly reward yourself with things that you enjoy doing and experiencing.

Make a difference by making changes to your lifestyle. If something isn’t interesting to you anymore, change the way it works. Or get rid of it; it’s your life! Whatever you do, make yourself happy!
