5 Underrated Productivity Hacks You Can Learn From Successful People

underrated-productivity-hacks

When it comes to productivity, everyone wants to get more things done in the shortest time. What most people never realize is that they focus too much on getting the work done that they forgot about getting the results that they want.

Being busy every single day and getting the results you want are two totally different things. Most people spend their time working on tasks that don’t matter and wonder why they are not getting the results they want in the end.

If you have the same experience and feel that you are busy each day but are getting nowhere, these five underrated productivity hacks are meant for you.

5 Underrated Productivity Hacks

1. Find out your most result-yielding task

What is your most result-yielding task? Do you know that not all tasks are created equal? When we talk about getting results, the Pareto Principle or the 80/20 Rule applies.

You must understand that most of the work you do will only give you 20% of the results, while only a small portion of your work will yield you the most result, or the 80%.

So find out and focus on the 20% work that will give you the most result. Stop chasing the rabbit because if you try to focus on doing works that don’t really matter, you will not be getting significant results.

In his best-selling book, The One Thing, Gary Keller explained your most result-yielding work as your one thing. You must identify your one thing and get it done as soon as possible. Nothing is more important than doing work that will move your business and your dreams.

2. Time block the most important task

This is what most ordinary people never do. After they have identified their one thing, they never actually spend time doing it. They got caught up in their day-to-day business operation or other menial tasks that are urgent.

And as a result, they use their precious time on things that don’t matter. By the end of the day when they want to do their most important task, they already used up most of the energy, and they just cannot stay focused anymore.

The solution is simple; you just need to time block your most important activity. Once you have discovered your most important work that will give you the most result, time block it and get it done as early as possible.

For instance, if you are a writer, your one thing or your most important work is to write. So time block your writing in the morning. You can time block 830am to 1230pm to write. And during these four productive hours, you will not do other things except writing.

You will not pick up any call, return any call, and get distracted by other people or other tasks and you want to make sure you focused and put all your energy into writing.

Time blocking can be a very powerful productivity technique if you follow through and stick to it.

3. Maintain physical health

This is something most people never thought about. They thought that productivity is about getting things done, and it has nothing to do with maintaining their physical health. If you think so, you are wrong.

Successful people understand that being healthy and having all the energy they need to get their work done is the most important productivity hack they require. Without the energy, you can never get things done.

Think about it, if you are sleepy and always feel lethargic, do you think you can perform well and produce great work? You know the answer.

This is why exercising, eating healthy food and maintaining good health are important. A very clear example is that most people feel sleepy after their lunch break.

They either eat too heavy, or they consume too much carbohydrate, their digestive system has to work more and thus; they feel sleepy and tired.

And when you are in a sleepy and tired state, you cannot produce outstanding work, be it in life or business. This is why most successful people workout and they eat healthy food that gives them all the energy they need to do great work.

4. Doing things in batches

Another common pitfall most people face is that they are not doing things in batches. Do you know that you can do more when you do the same thing at the same time? It is going to save you a lot of time.

For example, an internet marketer can do his research to come up with all the related keywords he wants to target all at the same time instead of doing it every day and get a few keywords here and there.

The same goes for bloggers. Bloggers can choose to brainstorm ideas for their article titles for the whole month in one time than doing it every single day before they start writing.

When you split up the work and try to get it done at a different time, it will consume a lot of your energy and take up a lot of your time.

However, when you practice batching and do similar work at the same time, it saves you time because you are already in the state and have built up the momentum.

5. Take a short nap

Do you know that many successful people take naps in between their day to day activity? People like Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, Winston Churchill and much more have the habit of taking short naps during their work.

Usually, your energy will dip, and you will use up most of your willpower after the morning session. And when you take a short nap, you will refresh the energy and restore your willpower to a higher level.

A short 15 to 30 minutes nap will be more than enough. If you overdo it and sleep for an hour or so, you will go into deep sleep mode, and you may feel groggy after you wake up.

Do you know that taking a short nap can prevent burnout and refresh your alertness? Success is a long journey, and if you did not stop and rest from time to time, you may get burnout and suffer more.

There is a great saying; productivity is not about managing your time, it is about managing your energy. Everyone has 24 hours a day, and it all depends on how you manage your energy to go through those 24 hours each day.

Conclusion

Everyone can be productive and get the most result out from their lives if they want to. They just have to identify their most important task, do it the first thing in the morning, and learn to manage their energy each day.
